ACB Files Case Against Three Mumbai Police Officers for Alleged Bribery, No Arrests Yet

The Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against three police officers from Mumbai, namely Police Inspector Murlidhar Karpe, Police Sub-Inspector Rahul Jadhav, and Constable Ganesh Mozar, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from a money lender in Chembur. The case was officially filed on Thursday, but as of now, no arrests have been made.

The complainant, who is involved in lending money at high-interest rates, reported the matter to the RCF police station in the first week of November. He claimed that he had been deceived by a few individuals to whom he had lent a significant amount of money. The complainant approached the police station seeking assistance.

The three accused officers, who were stationed at the RCF police station in Mumbai’s Chembur, initiated an inquiry upon receiving the complaint. However, before proceeding with the investigation, they allegedly demanded gratification from the complainant, which he reluctantly fulfilled. Subsequently, the money lender insisted on the registration of a formal complaint, prompting him to approach the headquarters of the Anti Corruption Bureau.

During the inquiry, it was revealed that Inspector Karpe had made demands through his subordinate Jadhav, who, in turn, requested 10-gram gold coins for Karpe and Rs 65,000 in cash for himself. Additionally, Constable Mozar demanded a Rs 5,000 bribe from the money lender. As a result of their alleged misuse of authority, a case has been registered against them under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, according to a senior ACB official.
